
Jake S. Long, M.D., MBA
Dr. Long was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Elkhorn. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska, where he walked on to the football team as a tight end. Through his dedication both on the field and in the classroom, he earned a full athletic scholarship and was honored as a Second-Team Academic All-American.
He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha while concurrently completing a Master of Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. During medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society and was awarded the AOA Clinical Scholar Award for his leadership, scholarship, service, and commitment to high-quality patient care.
Dr. Long completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. While at Duke, he provided medical coverage for local high school teams, North Carolina Central University athletics, Duke University Football, and Duke Men’s Basketball. He also engaged in orthopedic research with support from the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) and the Orthoregeneration Network (ON), publishing across various topics in the field.
Following residency, Dr. Long was selected for a one-year Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado—one of the nation’s top-ranked programs, renowned for its academic rigor and elite faculty. During his fellowship, he provided care for high school, collegiate, and professional athletes from all over the country, as well as members of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Teams.
Dr. Long specializes in the treatment of sports-related injuries of the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, and ankle. He also focuses on knee joint preservation, shoulder replacement, and fracture care—areas emphasized during his training at SPRI.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Long enjoys spending time with his wife and four children. His hobbies include staying active, enjoying the outdoors, golfing, snowboarding, and cheering on Nebraska athletics.
