Proposed Medicare Changes: Same-Day Care at Risk in 2027
Medicare has proposed a new payment policy that would reduce payment when a separately identifiable office visit and certain procedures are provided on the same day. If implemented, this change could make it more difficult for practices to provide medically appropriate treatment during the same visit and could require some patients to return for a separate appointment.
How this could affect you:
Increased Costs
A second appointment could mean additional copays, coinsurance, transportation expenses, and time away from work.
Delayed Treatment
Essential procedures may be delayed until a follow-up visit can be scheduled.
Inconvenience & Hardship
Extra appointments may create challenges for patients with transportation needs, mobility limitations, caregiving responsibilities, or long travel distances.
