Dr. Robert Vande Guchte is a graduate of the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic residency at the University of Alberta and a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Calgary Sports Medicine Center. He has also completed a second fellowship in Spine Surgery at the University of British Columbia Spine Trauma and Disease Center.
Dr. Vande Guchte is on staff at all Lincoln hospitals, several surgery centers in Lincoln, and outlying community hospitals in Nebraska. Dr. Vande Guchte serves as Team Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Lincoln Stars hockey team and the Lincoln Saltdogs baseball team.
Dr. Vande Guchte’s decision to choose medicine and ultimately orthopaedic surgery as a career path developed early in life; guided by his Christian faith to help his fellow man and influenced by his father, a dedicated and caring family physician. His own widespread involvement in many sports fueled his interest in orthopaedic sports medicine and the desire for challenges led to his major interest in spine surgery. In his free time, his hobbies include golf, ice hockey, and skiing.

Leaving this last appointment, I'm thinking about when all of this started, and I am in tears of joy. I cannot put into words how grateful I am for my surgeon and his team. From the decision to have surgery, to the long path in determining which surgery would be best for me, and learning how intense the surgery was. To going through it, recovery, and more, Dr. Robert A. Vande Guchte was the best decision I made. I'm also a very emotional person, happy, sad and everything in between, his staff was always so helpful and concerned with how I was doing and feeling. I’ve had 2 Spinal surgeries to my Cs. I had a fusion and an artificial disk placement .My post-op care was excellent.I am now having issues with my lumbar spine. I live in west-central NE and even though I have a local surgeon that is well qualified, based on my previous successful surgeries I decided that Dr. Vande Guchte and his staff are for me once again.My wife and I saw him today and appreciated his thoroughness in examining my MRI results but took the time to examine me and discuss what was going on with my lumbar spine. I went for back pain as I had dealt with it for years. They ran some tests, done an MRI of neck and back. Turned out the compression on my spinal cord in my neck was causing the other symptoms. I had fusion C6&7, then put screws on C4&5 to lift it off my spinal cord. Much better. Would definitely recommend Dr. Vande Gutche and his PA Shane Bloom. Dr Vande Guchte is an excellent spinal surgeon. He's very knowledgeable and helped me make what I consider to be the correct decision regarding surgery. He replaced my spinal disc at L5-S1 which was desiccated and causing me constant pain. In the 4 years since then I've barely had any back pain. Dr Vande Guchte and his staff were friendly and considerate. I'd recommend working with them.

I had extreme pain in my right leg and butt. Dr. Vande Guchte performed a laminectomy on 4 of my vertebra which completely eliminated the pain. Recovery went well. Dr. Vande Gutche did a spinal fusion for me 10 years ago with a similar excellent outcome.

Dr. Vande Guchte and his PA Mike are the absolute best. I have had 2 surgeries performed by them and couldn’t be happier. I see a lot of negative reviews on these doctors and can’t understand why.
