Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS)

Nerve problems are a very common issue affecting many people.  Symptoms of a nerve problem include pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness.  These problems range from carpal tunnel syndrome to pinched nerves in the neck or low back.  Our physiatrist, Dr. Joseph Mulka, is specialty trained to diagnose nerve problems using a test called electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS).  The results of this test are used to pinpoint the problem area and to help guide your treatment.  Conditions that are frequently diagnosed by this test include:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Radiculopathy (pinched nerve in neck or low back)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
  • Peroneal neuropathy
  • Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
